Wilderness Pack Trips - Spot Packing

Riding with pack stock

Spot pack trips are becoming ever more poplar with the backpacker and wilderness traveler who wants to ride and be packed into a specific destination, but not catered to during the trip.

Our mules and horses and guides will pack you and your gear to the destination of your choice (we can suggest many options), then return at a prearranged time and place for your trip back out of the wilderness or you may choose to hike out yourself. A spot pack trip allows you to take whatever supplies you want to enjoy your stay. The cost is based on the number of mules and horses used, plus a guide fee.

  • $125 per mule/horse per day plus $200 per day for the guide and guide's riding mule.
    (Prices do not include 6% Idaho state sales tax.)

    There is a minimum charge of four mules or horses plus guide's fee. Each guide can be responsible for up to 6 horses. All gear being packed needs to be at Paradise base camp by 5:00 PM on the day prior to your trip start date (unless other arrangements have been made). Meals and lodging will be provided at Paradise on the evening before the trip. This allows us to cargo the gear for packing and to determine the correct number of stock needed.

    Each day is based on up to 20-miles total travel. If the total distance traveled is beyond 20 miles we will pro-rate the charge.

Hiking with pack stock

Hiking with pack stock is the answer to leisurely hikes with all the comforts of a full camp. This is your opportunity to design a hiking trip through as much or as little of the wilderness as your group desires. Taking a daypack with lunch, you can explore and hike various trails or stop to fish at a nice looking hole in the river or stream along the way, while your guide and pack mules move your camp.

  • $175 per person per day (minimum charge of 4 people)

    Trip includes: guide/packer, pack stock, camp and kitchen gear.

    We can help with the menu suggestions as well as gathering or pre-ordering food if necessary.

    Add $60 per person per day if you would like food and meals prepared and provided.
