Mountain Lion - Winter Mountain Lion Hunts
The mountain lion is a large, majestic, powerful wild cat - also known as the cougar. Our area has extremely low hunting pressure due to the limited access. The cougar population is large and this area is notorious for being a stronghold for big cats. If you are willing to spend the time and effort, the next world record entry could be yours. Of the all time top ten scoring cougars in the Boone & Crockett Record Book, three are from the Selway including #5 taken in our camp in 1995. In the Safari Club International World Record Book, Alan Heth's cougar taken in 1991 tied for #2. Along with many all time Boone & Crocket entry cats (15 plus inch skulls). These animals were all harvested five to fifteen miles of our base camp.
We travel 50 miles on snowmobiles to reach the base camp. Hunting will be along the Selway River and its tributaries and drainages. Hunters must be in good physical condition and be able to walk and travel in the mountains. On an average winter one should expect to wear snowshoes 30%-40% of the time while hunting. Hunting for mountain lion is not only exciting, it's unique due to the fact that it requires hunting hounds to track the cougar. We have professional hounds-men to guide the hunts. This hunt can be combined with bobcat when take season is in effect. Typically the bobcat take season is December 16 thru February 16 however this varies from year to year according to Fish and Game regulations. The Mountain Lion season is November 1 thru March 30, however all winter hunts take place in January and February. Rates:
